I have to officially diminish the stereotype of "looking like a mom!" Can someone explain this theory to me because I do not understand how someone can "look like a mom?" As a young mother, I often struggle with this because I am a major fashionista but also a mom that's constantly on the go! Are the individuals referring to the fact that most moms are extremely busy caring for their kids or that several moms are operating with only five hours of sleep per day? At any rate, we need to "kill" this stereotype and start celebrating the journey of motherhood.
I will admit that being a young mom does have it's fashion challenges! A few of the challenges that can impact daily fashion choices include: wearing clothing that can camouflage stains; needing shoes for comfort (to chase my 3 year old son); and purchasing hair accessories for bad hair days.

But, before I can dispel the stereotype of "looking like a mom," I have to address a few topics that are not considered to be chic (even as a busy mom)
1. Wearing high-waist jeans
2. Wearing mens t - shirts and tights (all of the time)
3. Wearing pajama bottoms
4. Wearing "sweats" year round
5. Wearing hoodies (A MAJOR OFFENSE)
6. Wearing baseball caps
Very Mommy Chic:
1. Beautiful Lingerie (you still have the assets!)
2. Skinny/Straight Leg Jeans
3. Shift Dresses (work on any body type)
4. Spanx...THANK GOD!
5. Pumps or Embellished Flats
6. Silk Stockings (hide those veins)
7. Tweed Blazers (camouflage body imperfections)
8. Large Handbag (holding my juicy couture sunglasses and animal crackers...lol)
9. Pencil Skirts
10. Over sized Sunglasses (hide those eyes after a long night)
How do we "kill" the stereotype of "looking like a mom?" It's ultimately about taking the time to care for yourself and purchasing quality pieces of clothing that fit your changing lifestyle. The items on the Mommy Chic list are only a few fashion tips that I have developed over my short time of being a mom! I am sure that there are better tips for moms out there but the point of this list is to encourage women of all ages to embrace this season of life! Enjoy being a mother but look fashionable and chic while your doing it!
